What Are Ram-Don Noodles?
Ram-Don noodles were invented by Korean director Bong Joon Ho in his Oscar winning movie, Parasite. It's a version of jjapaguri, a dish made with two Nongshim noodle products: Chapagetti, a ramen-style noodle, and Neoguri, an udon-style noodle. Bong added beef to the recipe, and mashed "ramen" and "udon" together to make Ram-Don.
Ingredients You'll Need
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 pounds large shrimp

- 2 packages Neoguri instant noodles

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to make Ram-Don in a pressure cooker?
No, you don't. You can find recipes for making Ram-Don on the stovetop. But I really like the way the noodles are cooked perfectly in the pressure cooker!
Do I have to use these specific noodles?
You can make a similar dish with any combination of instant noodles. The main thing I learned from this recipe is that you don't have to limit yourself to one type of noodle in a dish! Actually, the noodles are all pretty much the same; the difference is in the seasonings. So experiment and see what you can come up with!
Where can I find Nongshim noodles?
If you're fortunate to have an Asian market near you, head right over and check their noodle section! But if you do a search for "asian noodles online" you'll find a lot of online stores with a wide variety of instant noodles, including Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Southeast Asian. How to Make Pressure Cooker Ram-Don
This is all you'll need! Shrimp, Chapagetti noodles, and Neoguri noodles.
Here's what's in the noodle packages. Chapagetti, on the left: noodles, spices, oil, and dried vegetable flakes. Neoguri, on the right: noodles, dried vegetable flakes, and spices.
Sauté the shrimp in the cooker. I'm thinking I'm going to do as much sautéing as possible in my Ninja Foodie from now on. It heats up faster, holds a prefect constant temperature, and doesn't get oil spattered all over the stovetop!
Put the noodles in the pot and pour in the water. The liquid is yellowish because of the butter and shrimp juice, and that's just fine.
Close the pot and set it to pressure cook for zero minutes. By the time the pot reaches pressure, the noodles will be cooked perfectly! (If your pot won't go to zero, set it to 1 minute and hit the Stop button as soon as it reaches pressure.)
Do a quick release. Look at those noodles! Better yet, snag a couple with a fork or chopsticks and taste them. Perfect texture!
Mix in all the dried vegetable and seasoning packets and stir it up really well. You should have a beautiful and spicy brown sauce.
Add the shrimp and oil packets, give it a last stir, and serve!
