Miniature Pomegranates

Published: Nov 12, 2024 by Chef Grey

Debbie loves growing miniature fruit trees in her greenhouse. She used to call them "dwarf trees", but I told her the politically correct term is "little person trees". She thought that was silly and I agreed, so we settled on "miniature".

One of her favorite fruits is pomegranates, so she planted this tree a few years ago. Last year we got three or four fruits, and this year we're getting a bumper crop!

Why do we call a large harvest a "bumper crop"? The term comes from an obsolete usage of the verb "bump", meaning "to bulge". That's probably why we say "baby bump", too!

This is the pomegranate tree in full bloom.

And here it is bearing fruit. The largest ones are about the size of a golf ball.

As usual, we'll have some pictures of the fruit after we harvest them.

And by the way, I've decided to give Debbie the official title of "Miniature Orchardist"!
